The big $33-million dollar Lotto 6/49 winner in Owen Sound has come forward.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation says 48-year-old Jason Goreski of Owen Sound has claimed the jackpot from the Feb. 2 draw.
OLG says Goreski found out he won the jackpot on a Sunday when he was planning to take a drive up the Bruce Peninsula to look at cottages his family dreamed of purchasing. While waiting for his kids and girlfriend to get ready, Goreski checked his ticket.
"When I noticed I had matched four numbers in a row, I started to shake," Goreski says in a statement. "Then I saw that the last two numbers matched and that's when things started to get a bit hectic."
Goreski then contacted OLG to find out what to do next, but since he was calling on a Sunday he was told to wait until the OLG Prize Centre opened before he could make the drive to Toronto.
OLG says Goreski and family decided to take the drive up the Bruce Peninsula after all and instead of dreaming of buying a cottage, they began taking a serious look at what was for sale.
"I always wanted a boat," Goreski says. "Now I will buy it and a cottage with a big dock!"
The 48-year-old father of two says he has no plans to retire despite the massive lottery win, as he recently purchased a heating and cooling company in Owen Sound.
Goreski has worked for Gas Plus for 20 years and in the last six years he began to buy into the business.
OLG says this past fall, Goreski purchased the entire business in the middle of an expansion.
"I have a 12 to 15 people and their families depending on me, so I will continue on with the expansion and with work," Goreski explains. "However, this windfall will definitely help make my future and that of my family much easier."
The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K on 9th Avenue in Owen Sound.
